Mr Moore

September 2022

To parents/carers and children,

Welcome to 5JM!

Hello 5JM! Welcome to Year 5.

I hope that you have all had a wonderful, restful break and are ready to start a brand new school year!

Please have a look through our year group's newsletter which I have attached on here which has relevant information about what is going on in school this half term.

Here is some useful information to help you get settled back into school life.

Important information:

Trips: We have planned a few exciting trips throughout the year so please keep a look out for newsletters which have all the relevant information.

Homework: Homework will be handed out on a Thursday and due back the following Tuesday. If your child is finding the homework difficult, please ask them to speak to myself or Miss Higson before it is due in so we can help support them. We would appreciate your support and encouragement with this too.

Planners: Book bags, reading planners and reading books should be brought to school each day. We ask all children to read aloud with an adult each evening and have their planner signed each time they do so. Planners will be signed by myself or Miss Higson every Monday morning upon arrival.

PE: PE will be every Monday afternoon. Your child can come into school in their PE kits.

Topics we will be covering this half term are:

Literacy: Letter writing, information texts, newspaper reports, narrative writing and a biography.

Numeracy: Place Value, rounding, addition and subtraction.

Science:  Life cycles

History:  Tudors—examining the War of the Roses, Henry VII and Henry VIII (there will be a trip!)

Geography: Rivers (There will be a trip!)

Art/DT:  Portraits, based on Henry VIII

R.E: Buddhism

Please have a look at our knowledge organisers so you can see what your child will be learning about.

Reminder: We are a healthy school; please can you send your child to school with a water bottle filled with water, it can be refilled in the classroom throughout the day. You may also wish to send your child to school with a healthy snack to eat at break time.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you all back into school on Monday 5th September.
