Art
At Newall Green Primary School, we believe that every child has something creative to say. Art gives children the freedom to explore ideas, express themselves and see the world from different perspectives. We want every child to discover the joy of creating, while developing the confidence to experiment, take risks and find their own artistic voice.
Our Art & Design curriculum introduces children to a rich and diverse range of artists, designers and craftspeople from different cultures, periods and backgrounds. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printing and a wide variety of materials and techniques, children learn to explore, create, refine and evaluate their ideas. They are encouraged to look closely, ask questions and respond to art in ways that are personal and meaningful to them.
As their skills develop, children build a growing understanding of colour, shape, form, texture, pattern and composition, while learning how artists have influenced society and culture throughout history. Our curriculum gives children opportunities to experiment, make choices and learn that there is not always one right answer.
Most importantly, we want our children to have the confidence to “have a go”, to embrace creativity, learn from experimentation and take pride in what they create. By the time they leave Newall Green Primary School, we hope they have not only developed a strong foundation in Art & Design, but also a lasting appreciation of creativity and the confidence to express their own ideas and see the world in new ways.
