Design Technology
At Newall Green Primary School, we want our children to be creative thinkers, confident problem-solvers and imaginative innovators. Design & Technology gives children the opportunity to turn ideas into reality; designing, making, testing and improving products that have a real purpose.
Through practical, hands-on experiences, children learn to research, generate ideas, select materials and tools, and develop their designs from an initial concept into a finished product. They are encouraged to experiment, learn from mistakes and evaluate their work, understanding that great designs often develop through a process of trying, improving and trying again.
Our children explore how design and technology have shaped the world around us, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of inventors, designers and innovators. They make meaningful connections with subjects such as Science, Maths, Computing, Art, Geography and History, helping them see how creativity and technical knowledge work together to solve real-world problems.
We also place an important emphasis on cooking, nutrition and practical life skills. Children learn where food comes from, how to prepare healthy meals and the importance of developing skills they can use confidently both now and in the future.
Most importantly, we want every child to leave Newall Green Primary School believing that their ideas can make a difference. Through designing, making and creating, children develop the problem-solving, teamwork, communication, self-management and self-belief they need to become confident innovators.
