Physical Education (PE)
At Newall Green Primary School, we believe that being active helps children thrive. PE is about much more than learning to run, jump, throw or play a game; it is about developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong understanding of the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.
Our PE curriculum gives every child the opportunity to develop their physical skills, discover new activities and challenge themselves at a level that is right for them. Through a broad range of sports, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor activities, children learn to work individually and as part of a team, solve problems, communicate effectively and celebrate their own progress.
We encourage children to develop a “personal best” mindset; learning that success is not always about winning, but about improving, persevering and being proud of what they can achieve. Competitive opportunities, clubs, tournaments and sporting events allow children to put their skills into practice while developing a strong sense of fair play, cooperation and sportsmanship.
Alongside physical development, we place a strong emphasis on healthy, active lifestyles. Children learn how physical activity supports their physical and emotional wellbeing and are encouraged to discover activities they can enjoy both in and beyond school.
Most importantly, we want every child to leave Newall Green Primary School with confidence in what their body can do, pride in their achievements and a love of being active. We hope that the positive experiences they have through PE will inspire them to stay active, look after their wellbeing and enjoy the benefits of sport throughout their lives.
