Article of the week
Every Thursday, our pupils take part in our Rights Respecting Article of the Week Assembly. During these assemblies, we explore one of the articles from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and discuss what it means for children in our school, our community and around the world.
The assemblies provide an opportunity for children to learn about their rights, reflect on how these rights are respected and consider how they can help to protect the rights of others. Through stories, videos, discussions and real-life examples, pupils are encouraged to think critically about important issues and share their views and opinions.
Our Article of the Week assemblies help children to develop a deeper understanding of fairness, equality, respect and inclusion. They also encourage children to recognise themselves as active citizens who can make a positive difference in their school and wider community.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by asking their child which article they have explored each week and discussing why it is important. By working together, we can help children understand that rights are not just something they learn about in school – they are something they experience and promote every day. Look out for our weekly 'Article of the Week' on the newsletter, where you can explore the article and the suggested family discussion activities together.
