Badgers Class – How We Support Our Children
-
Learning is personalised and broken into small, manageable steps so children can build confidence and independence at their own pace.
-
Daily 1:1 sessions help children work towards their own targets and support all areas of development.
-
A strong focus on emotional regulation, well-being and positive relationships through calm, predictable routines.
-
Regular circle time in a low-pressure environment.
-
Sensory needs are supported through adapted resources and sensory-friendly spaces throughout the day.
-
Access to the sensory room, outdoor environment and sensory circuits as needed
-
A wide range of sensory activities to explore textures, movement, sounds and visual experiences safely and comfortably
Our Curriculum
A half-termly newsletter is uploaded to the class page with up-to-date information about current topics and learning objectives.
Our focus in Hedgehogs is on the core subjects of phonics, literacy and maths, which are taught daily and tailored to each child’s individual pace. We prioritise the development of language and social communication.
We use British Sign Language (BSL) throughout the day and follow a total communication approach, including:
-
Communication boards
-
Visual timetables
-
Now and next boards
These strategies support children across all areas of communication and learning.
