Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At our school, we are committed to providing a high-quality Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that gives every child the best possible start to their education. The EYFS is a statutory framework that sets the standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old. It ensures that children are kept safe, supported, and develop the knowledge and skills they need for future learning.
Our Early Years provision is built on the four key principles of the EYFS. We recognise that every child is a unique individual who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. We value the importance of positive relationships and understand that children learn best when they feel secure and supported. We provide enabling environments that respond to children’s individual needs, interests and stages of development, and we recognise that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
Learning in EYFS is carefully planned through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities. Our curriculum follows the seven areas of learning: the three prime areas of communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development, alongside the four specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. These areas work together to support children’s holistic development and prepare them for the next stage of their education.
We place a strong emphasis on creating a stimulating and nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued and motivated to explore. Through play-based learning, meaningful experiences and strong partnerships with parents and carers, we support children in becoming independent learners who are ready for school and beyond.
