Careers Curriculum

Our vision:

Embed CRL in our school curriculum so that children can make informed choices about a broad range of careers available to them.

Provide a range of opportunities and experiences that will motivate and inspire our pupils to achieve their full potential in their future careers.

Develop core skills: resilience, confidence, communication, teamwork, problem solving and aspiration so that all pupils are aiming high to reach their goals.

At Newall Green Primary School, we believe that a careers education is imperative for children’s future successes in our ever -changing world. The Career Development Framework states: career related learning in primary schools is about broadening pupils’ horizons, challenging stereotypes and helping them develop the skills and sense of self that will enable them to reach their full potential.

The curriculum provides opportunities for children to reflect about themselves, their interests and construct a positive narrative which boosts confidence. This in turn allows them to see many pathways that might be open to them and how this links to the learning that takes place in school.

Our school strategic objectives:

1. Reduce bias and challenge stereotypes so that by the end of year 6, our pupils are aware of a broad range of careers available to them.

2. Plan CRL opportunities across the whole school curriculum that engage pupils, inspire pupils and lead to aspirational careers choices.

3. Further develop the relationships with a diverse range of employers in the local area and increase opportunities for talks and visits.

4. Develop every teacher to be a teacher of careers and feel confident in the delivery of careers and skills in the curriculum.

Learning areas and aims in the Career Development Framework

The Career Development Institute (CDI) commissioned an extensive research and consultation project in 2020-21 to develop an all-age Career Development Framework. The framework identifies important areas of learning that support lifelong career development. The following link explains the aims and objectives of our careers programme for each area from Early Years to KS2:

The following is our Careers overview from EYFS to Year 6 showing the Careers opportunities that are built into our curriculum areas. The trips and visits could change each year as we are always broadening the opportunities for our children to learn about different careers and work with local employers.

Our Mission Statement...

At Newall Green Primary School, we are a Peace Mala and Rights Respecting School. We provide an environment where the children feel happy, safe and ready to learn.
We use the five key skills for life; problem solving, teamwork, self-management (initiative, organisation, accountability), self-belief (confidence, resilience, positive attitude), and communication, so we are ‘Aiming High to Reach Our Goals’.
