History

At Newall Green Primary School, we believe that understanding the past helps children make sense of the world around them. Our History curriculum brings the past to life, inspiring children to be curious about the people, places and events that have shaped our world.

Through exciting topics, stories, historical artefacts, educational visits and opportunities to explore evidence, children learn to think like historians. They develop a secure understanding of chronology while asking questions, making connections, comparing different perspectives and considering how and why things have changed over time.

From exploring our local history to discovering ancient civilisations and significant moments in British and world history, children are encouraged to look beyond the facts and consider the experiences of the people who lived before them. They learn that history is not simply a collection of dates and events, but a story of people, choices, challenges, achievements and change.

Alongside their historical knowledge, children develop the skills that will support them throughout life; problem-solving, communication, teamwork, self-management and self-belief. We want every child to leave Newall Green Primary School with a genuine enthusiasm for History, the confidence to ask thoughtful questions and a deeper understanding of how the past continues to shape the world they live in today.
