Welcome to 4HS

We have missed you all and can't wait to have you back! On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday your teacher will be Mrs Harvey and on Thursday and Friday it will be Miss Shorter. Mrs Fleming will be in class to help all week.

Between now and December, we will be swimming again on a Monday afternoon (starting Monday 11^th September) and we will also have PE on Friday mornings. Our PE day may change during the autumn term but we will let you know in plenty of time when that happens.

We’ve detailed below some reminders for the school routine. Please note the PE uniform which is now in force.

Classroom Routines

• Water bottles - bring your water bottles (clearly named if possible) with you each day. These should contain water only and if you run out you can fill up in the classroom. If you can, try to use a reusable bottle. Your child may also bring in a healthy snack to have at break time. Please see the school website for details.

• Uniform - Last term, we noticed that some pupils were forgetting to wear the correct uniform. We believe that uniform is important and expect pupils to arrive in the correct clothing.

BOYS UNIFORM

• Black, navy or grey school trousers or shorts
• Plain white or blue shirt, white or blue polo shirt or school polo shirt
• Plain navy blue jumper, sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece
• Black footwear.

GIRLS UNIFORM

• Black, navy or grey school trousers, shorts or skirt
• In warmer months, girls may wear a blue check summer dress
• In colder months, girls may wear black, navy or grey tights
• Plain white or blue shirt, white or blue polo shirt or school polo shirt
• Plain navy blue jumper, sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece
• Black footwear.

JEWELLERY

The children may only wear single stud earrings and a watch to school. This is for all of the children’s safety and also the security of any jewellery. No other jewellery is acceptable and your child will be asked to remove it. Jewellery MUST NOT be worn for P.E. or swimming. 

If you are struggling to find suitable clothing, please let a member of staff know and we can provide help including clean, second hand items from the Whitehouse Centre. 

• PE - our PE lessons will be on Friday mornings this term. Please come to school in your PE kit including trainers, navy or black shorts or joggers, a plain white t-shirt and a plain navy jumper (if children are wearing inappropriate or colourful clothes, these fall outside of our school uniform policy and children will be asked to change). Swimming - as last year, children should bring a swimming costume (one piece for girls), a towel and swimming cap if they have long hair. Pupils with earrings, are required to remove them before entering the pool. 

• No football shirts - even if you have a sports club after school, football shirts are not allowed.
• Homework - will be given out on a Friday and is due the following Thursday. Any children struggling to complete homework at home, should ask for help from a school adult by Wednesday.
• Golden Time - will take place every Friday afternoon to celebrate the children's hard work and good behaviour - the children can bring one toy and we will sometimes have special activities for the children to take part in.
• Allergies - there are several children with nut allergies so please avoid sending products with nuts into school.
• Reading - We expect children to read at least 3 days in a week (out of 7 days) and to bring their planners every day for review. Children should record the name of the book and which pages they have read in their planners. We will give out champion points to regular readers! Their planners should be returned into school each day with them. As mentioned at our meeting, I have attached details of the subtitle campaign. Turning on the subtitles while children are watching television can double the chances of a child becoming good at reading. It’s so brilliantly simple and can help children’s literacy so much that we want to shout it from the rooftops! Linbk to website is above. 
• Read Write Inc - to provide children with additional reading and writing support, some pupils will be receiving additional reading booklets. These correspond to the reading and writing activities we will complete in class. Practising at home will give your child a greater chance to thrive.
• Logins - each child will be given a login to TT Rockstars and Purple Mash. These are all apps that you can access through most computers and laptops, as well as tablets. If you are missing or have misplaced a login, please let a school adult know.
• Worries - If you or your child have any concerns, please communicate through their school planner or speak to one of the school adults at the end of the school day. We also have a feelings box at the front of the class for the children to put their worries, in case they feel uncomfortable speaking to a school adult.
